Frequently Asked Questions

These questions cover how #A11ySpaces works today, what’s coming next, and how we think about accuracy, responsibility, and impact.

The Basics

What is A11ySpaces?

A11ySpaces is a mobile-first accessibility consultant in your pocket. It is an intuitive app that translates complex building codes, ADA standards, and digital inclusion guidelines into simple, actionable checklists. Think of it as a digital bridge between dense legal requirements and real-world inclusive action.

Who is this app for?

We designed A11ySpaces for the “Inclusion Stakeholders” who build and manage our world:Small Business Owners: Who want to welcome every employee and customer without the fear of lawsuits or high consulting fees.HR Professionals: Who need to quickly understand and implement workplace accommodations for diverse talent.Construction & Design Teams: Who need “Local Logic” on-site to ensure a build is compliant the first time, every time.

Why an app? Why not just keep consulting?

As consultants, we love what we do, but we are limited by the hours in a day. We can’t consult with everyone personally, and traditional accessibility expertise is often too expensive for the small businesses that need it most. By creating an app, we can democratize our specialized knowledge, lower the cost barrier to inclusion, and help thousands of organizations make work accessible at once.

Product & Technology

Will the app work offline?

Yes. We are building a “Pocket Mode” specifically for contractors and inspectors working in “dead zones”—like the basement of a historic building or a new construction site without Wi-Fi. You can save your project plans locally to your device.

Does the app handle local municipal codes, or just federal ADA?

Our goal is “Local Logic.” While we start with Federal ADA and International Building Codes (IBC), our database is designed to ingest state and municipal-level amendments. This is why we are raising funds: to build the data-ingestion pipeline that accounts for these localized variations that general search engines often miss.

How is your app different from a search engine or a PDF of the ADA standards?

Search engines give you raw data; A11ySpaces gives you actionable logic. Instead of reading a 300-page manual, you enter your zip code and building type, and our app filters out everything irrelevant. We don’t just show you “the law”—we show you the specific measurements and design steps for your exact situation, translated into layman’s terms.

Trust & Liability

How do you scale to 41,000+ zip codes without thousands of employees?

We utilize a Hybrid Automation Model. We use APIs and data feeds to track major changes at the federal and state levels. For the “last mile” of municipal data, our dedicated Data Analyst manages a specialized ingestion pipeline. This allows us to scale efficiently while maintaining the human oversight necessary for high-stakes compliance data.

Can I use this app to “self-certify” that my building is legal?

No. A11ySpaces is a powerful educational and planning tool designed to bridge the gap in accessibility knowledge. Because laws and physical site conditions change, we always recommend a final walkthrough by a certified professional for high-stakes projects. Our app helps you get 95% of the way there, saving you thousands in consulting fees and avoiding common “rookie” mistakes.

How do you ensure the data is accurate?

Our database is managed using a “Human-in-the-Loop” model. While we use automation to track code updates, our Accessibility Data Analyst and CPACC-certified founders verify critical logic. Accuracy is our primary feature and our highest priority.

Mission & Impact

Is this just for physical spaces, or digital accessibility too?

A11ySpaces provides a holistic 360-degree approach to inclusion. Our platform includes recommendations for the physical environment (workplaces, retail, etc.), operational accommodations (HR policies), and digital accessibility. We provide actionable checklists to ensure that your digital presence and workplace tools are as welcoming and accessible as your physical location.

Why are you focusing on employment and small businesses?

Small businesses make up the majority of US employers, yet they have the least access to affordable accessibility expertise. By helping them, we unlock thousands of job opportunities for the disability and neurodivergent community that were previously blocked by simple physical or digital barriers.

Investment & Sustainability

What happens if you don’t reach your full funding goal?

We are committed to the mission. If we don’t hit our goals for in-house development immediately, we will utilize a phased rollout, prioritizing the most-requested building types and regions first while continuing to bootstrap through our educational revenue.

What if the app is delayed past April 2026?

Transparency is one of our core values. We provide regular updates via our newsletter, Discord community, and Indiegogo. If we encounter technical hurdles, we will release the platform in phases (starting with Federal ADA) to ensure you have immediate value while we finalize localized features.

Where does my money go if I back the funding campaign(s)?

Your funds go directly toward moving the app from a “web beta” to a “proprietary in-house platform.” Specifically, it funds the hiring of our initial dev team and the massive task of codifying thousands of localized building requirements.

Why only $99 a year? Can you build a real business at that price?

Yes. By keeping the price point accessible, we aim for volume. There are over 33 million small businesses in the US alone. Our “Bottoms-Up” analysis shows that reaching just 1% of that market creates a multi-million dollar ARR company. High-volume adoption also makes us the “standard” for supplier partnerships and data licensing.

Community & Involvement

How can I get involved without spending money?

Join our Discord community, Pixel Place! We need beta testers, feedback from people with lived experience, and advocates to share the app with their local small businesses, HR teams, and construction friends.

I’m a developer/analyst/designer with a passion for accessibility. How can I join the team?

We are always looking for problem solvers with an inclusion mindset. Check our Job Openings page for our current needs. We are a fully remote, outcome-oriented team that values results over hours clocked. Join us!

Can I suggest features or building types for the database?

Absolutely! Supporters at our highest levels have a direct seat at the table for feature prioritization. All supporters are invited to our Discord community where we actively solicit feedback on which building types and regions to prioritize.
